Trip to NYC
Friday, August 31, 2018 by Simon Larner | Pianist
This summer I was able to take a trip to the Big Apple. Although this was a holiday, it was still a chance to explore all things piano related, including paying a visit to one of only three surviving pianos built by Bartolomeo Cristofori, the inventer of the piano. This unique instrument is housed at the Metropolitan Museum of Art and is of huge signifance to us pianists. After all, without Cristofori's increble invention, the piano as we know it wouldn't exist today.
As well as paying homage to the original piano, of course I had to spend some time with the modern instrument too and what better place than Steinway Hall in the heart of Manhattan? What else could I play whilst I was there but the eponymously named tune itself!
