New Year's Resolutions?

Monday, January 2, 2023 by Simon Larner | Pianist and Teacher

Happy New Year! I do love how this time of year prompts us to reflect on what we've achieved over the last 12 months and also think about what we'd like to accomplish in the new year. I myself am very happy to have successfully completed the second part of my Master's degree with Trinity Laban Conservatoire in 2022 and am very much looking forward to starting the final (and potentially most exciting) part in 2023. There's also new pieces of music that I'd like to learn, new pianists I want to spend time listening to and concerts that I want to go to. All of this helps me to maintain my enthusiasm as a teaching pianist, which I hope rubs off on my students.

So what are you goals for 2023? If you haven't thought about this yet, why not reflect on the direction you're heading in as a pianist. Instead of viewing your next set of piano lessons as a mere continuation from the last set, why not set yourself some exciting new goals? What are the pieces you'd like to learn? Are there any qualifications you'd like to achieve? The list is endless but ultimately, it should be yours. If you have a clear sense of direction in your learning, you're far more likely to become successful, so why not take a moment to think about what you'd like to achieve this year.

Good luck!
